The Text and media area resource is used to add text and images to your course homepage. You can use this resource to create headings in course sections on the main course page, which can be an effective way to organize content. For example, if you have several links to external websites, you could use a text and media area to display a title in the section where they appear, then group all of the website links below. Similarly, you could use text and media areas to organize groups of course materials and activities. With this resource, not only can you include formatted text but also graphics, which could enhance the look of your course and help students quickly identify topics.

Adding a Text and Media Area to a Section of Your Course
- Click on Edit mode at the top right part of the course home page.

- Click the + icon where you would like to add the text and media area (hover over the dotted line to see the + button to add content appear). Select Activity or resource from the content options.

- Double-click Text and media area in the activity chooser pop-up (also listed under Resources) or select the resource and then click the red Add button at the bottom right of the pop-up.

- The New Text and media area page will appear. In the Title in course index field, enter how you would like the resource listed in the course index (left-side table of contents) on the course homepage. If you leave this field blank, it will be automatically generated using the beginning of the text you enter. In the Text editor box under the General section, enter the text as you want it to appear on the course homepage. Add media using the buttons in the editor toolbar. When you're done, click on the red Save and return to course button at the bottom of the page.
