How to use the HTML editor

What is the HTML Editor in eClass?

The HTML editor in our eClass system is the TinyMCE editor. This is the editor you'll see available in forums, assignments, pages, labels, descriptions, quiz questions, and more.

Editing in HTML allows instructors and students to create formatted content using a visual editor and includes a raw HTML view for advanced customization.

To get to it, open any activity that has a place where you can enter text (in this example, it is an activity description).

The HTML code can be accessed by navigating to the Tools menu and then selecting Source code:

What Is the HTML View For?

Viewing the raw HTML source of the content is useful if you want to:

  • Embed third-party content (e.g., Padlet, Google Forms, interactive charts)
  • Customize layout beyond what the editor allows (i.e., change font colours that are beyond what is offered in the editor's text selection)
  • Insert your own inline styles or scripts (if permissions allow)
  • Fix formatting issues that appear in the WYSIWYG view (such as heading 2 (<h2>))

Or any other advanced coding needs.
