Using Completion Tracking

To help students manage their workload, eClass provides an option for tracking activities that have been completed. Completion tracking allows resources and activities to be marked complete manually or when certain conditions have been met.

You may use activity completion in combination with Restrict Access to manage the order in which students complete the activities in a course.

To make the Activity Completion option available, it needs to be activated at the course level. You can allow students to manually mark the activities to help keep track of what they have done, or set conditions for automatically marking the activity complete.

Enabling Completion Tracking

  1. Click Settings in the top navigation ribbon from the course's main page.
  2. Scroll down to Completion tracking section in settings.
  3. Select yes from the Enable Completion tracking drop-down list, then choose whether the activity completion conditions should be displayed to participants on the course homepage.

  4. Click Save and display at the bottom of the page to continue.

Configuring Tracking Criteria

Once completion tracking is enabled at the course level, you can set up tracking criteria for an activity by following the steps below:

  1. Enable editing using the Edit mode toggle at the top right of your course homepage.

    Edit mode on

  2. Click the vertical ellipsis icon to the far right of the course activity/resource title for which you would like to set the activity completion criteria, and select Edit settings.
  3. Expand the Completion conditionssettings and set the requirements
    • None - no completion conditions will be set and completion will not be tracked.
    • Students must manually mark the activity as done - students can manually mark the activity as done to count towards completion tracking. This enables students to track their own progress and requires no other conditions to be met.
    • Add requirements - requirements available are dependent on the activity type. For example, you may require a certain number of attempts for a quiz, or a grade for an assignment, or a number of posts for a forum. Once the conditions are met, the activity will be marked complete automatically.
  4. Set reminder in Timeline - if enabled, you can set a date for students to be reminded to take action. This will appear in the Timeline on their Dashboards.
  5. Click Save and return to course to complete the changes.
Delete

Note: If you are adding completion tracking after setting up your course activities and resources, you can also edit completion conditions in bulk. From your course homepage, select More and then Course Completion in the course navigation bar. Switch from viewing Course completion settings to Bulk edit activity completion

The status of each tracked resource or activity can be displayed. To do so, follow these steps.

  1. Click Reports under More in the course navigation bar on the course homepage.
  2. Select Activity completion to view the status of all activities. Each activity is its own column across the top, and each student's name appears in a separate row.
