Safe Exam Browser troubleshooting
Please consult the list below for the most common SEB issues. When prompted to Download Safe Exam Browser, ensure that you're downloading the correct and latest version for your OS. Please note that currently the Android OS is not supported.
Invalid response value detected
Please try opening the course site in a web browser instead, by following a link from our eClass site.
SEB failed to start a new session
This usually means that SEB is unable to open because another application is running in the background that it cannot block.
Try restarting your device and make sure that no applications are open before launching SEB. You may also need to close conflicting programs using Task Manager (Windows) or Force Quit Applications (MacOS) or disable any offending applications during startup and restart.
SEB blocked
This usually means that SEB cannot open because an application is running in the background that it is unable to block.
Please restart your device and make sure no applications are open before attempting to launch SEB. See above entry regarding closing applications, or do a quick Google search specifying how to do it on your device.
SEB is not configured
This usually happens if you are trying to open SEB outside of the eClass quiz.

Do not open SEB directly by launching the program or app. SEB launches itself from the quiz activity: Click on Load Safe Exam Browser from the quiz landing page:

If SEB was not installed, you will not have this option, and you will need to download SEB:

If you still have issues, try clicking Download Configuration from the SEB options.
SEB is not installed in the Applications Folder (MacOS)
SEB for macOS must be installed in the Applications folder. It will not start if it is placed anywhere else. After downloading the correct installation file for macOS, it should appear in your Downloads folder. Double-click the SafeExamBrowser-x.x.dmg file to begin the installation.
Next, drag Safe Exam Browser.app into the Applications folder to install the program.

Once the installation is complete, return to the SEB Quiz on eClass and click Launch Safe Exam Browser.
Note that some users may have an Applications folder in their home directory. This is not the correct location. The application must be placed in the system’s Applications folder. You can confirm this by right-clicking the folder and ensuring it is located directly under Macintosh HD.
Failed to completely lockdown the computer
A security or antivirus program (e.g., Trend Micro) may be preventing SEB from locking the computer, which can cause a lock-out error.
Try temporarily disabling any antivirus or anti-malware programs or adding SEB as an exception to their whitelists.
